I'm performing the production sys-admin duties while Long is on vacation this week. I started checking the system last night before going to bed. At first I was not able to access the production or staging front end, but after trying different things for a little while I was able to access both. So I was at least able to verify that the system was up and running before going to bed. I woke up around 5 AM today to check on the system. Things seemed to be working alright. I checked on it a few more times before coming into the office and once I got into the office I logged and checked the system again. Still no problems. But then around 10 AM Tom told me via sametime that he couldn't use the system and that our client was having a problem. I ran the pingall script to see if it could tell me where the error was and it told me that it was the indexer mux. So I got onto the machine that runs the indexer mux and tried to restart it, but the process had become a zombie process. So I had to work some linux magic to kill it and start it up again from scratch. I'm glad I logged all the running processes on all of our backend machines last week. That document came in handy here. After I restarted the indexer mux I checked the front end and things seemed to be back up and running. The system seems to be working without any major hiccups since then.

I just got back from a meeting with a bunch of managers. The meeting was about a specific miner that I have already tested. Apparently there were some problems with it and the developers need to make some changes and then check it into CMVC. After that is done Art and Pete will need to test it for what they need to do. I will probably have to test it again just to make sure that it still "plays well" with my part of WebFountain.

This morning I participated in some training put on by Long to teach Madhu and I about certain problems that were occuring in the front end of my project. I have also been working on miners for most of the day. I have to run a list of miners against several data stores and capture performance metrics along the way. I started the miner run yesterday morning after going through the configuration file making sure that all the miners would run. I hope the miners finish up before I leave today, but if they don't I will check on them over the weekend.
